BIOPRINTING FEATURED ON DUTCH TV PROGRAM HET KLOKHUIS

20-05-2026

Today, the Dutch educational television program Het Klokhuis aired a special episode on bioprinting, featuring research from our labs at Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht.

For many people in the Netherlands, Het Klokhuis is an iconic science and education program that has inspired generations of children and young adults by making complex topics understandable, engaging, and fun. Since the late 1980s, the show has introduced viewers to science, technology, healthcare, engineering, and everyday innovations in an accessible way.

In this new episode, presenter Janouk Kelderman explores our laboratories together with Professor Jos Malda, taking viewers behind the scenes of the world of bioprinting and regenerative medicine. Together, they explain how living cells can be used as “bio-ink,” how scientists are working toward printing tissues for future medical treatments, and what the possibilities — and challenges — of this technology are.

The episode also offers a unique look into the daily work happening in the lab, showcasing the interdisciplinary collaboration behind biofabrication research and introducing younger audiences to the future of regenerative healthcare.

A special thank-you to the entire Het Klokhuis team and to everyone involved from Utrecht University, UMC Utrecht, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Orthopedie UMC Utrecht for helping bring this story to a broad audience.
