10 YEARS OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE IN UTRECHT
03-07-2025
On June 30th, TivoliVredenburg was filled with energy and inspiration as researchers, students, healthcare professionals, and partners gathered to celebrate 10 years of Regenerative Medicine Utrecht (RMU).
The symposium brought together generations of RMU contributors, from its pioneers to young researchers, highlighting a decade of progress — from a bold idea on paper to one of Europe’s largest regenerative medicine communities. In talks, panels, and workshops, the theme of the day was clear: learning from others.
From the historical journey shared by Joost Fledderus, to insights from RMU founders and the self-described “cool RM fossils,” the day showcased the power of collaboration. Jos Malda's reflections on team science reminded everyone that science thrives on community: “We couldn’t do it without each other.”
In the afternoon, hands-on sessions brought new perspectives — from rethinking failure with humor and yoga, to diving into the challenges of organ bioengineering, and learning to navigate interdisciplinary collaboration.
Talks from Leo Otsuki on axolotl regeneration and Teun Bastings on leadership through military experience added fresh lenses to look at science, teams, and nature.
The event ended as it began: with celebration, connection, and a shared sense of purpose. As Jos Malda put it, “It’s a unified force, and that’s really amazing.” The RMU community now looks ahead to the next 10 years — shaping the future, cell by cell.
