UTRECHT SUMMER SCHOOL 2026 COMES TO A SUCCESSFUL CLOSE

20-07-2026

The 13th edition of the Utrecht Summer School on 3D Printing & Biofabrication has come to a successful close, bringing together participants from 38 countries for an intensive week of lectures, hands-on training, scientific exchange, and networking in Utrecht.

Organized by Jos Malda, Riccardo Levato, Brenda Roosendaal, and the teams at Regenerative Medicine Utrecht, Utrecht University, UMC Utrecht, and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the course offered a broad overview of current developments in 3D printing, biofabrication, and bioprinting.

Throughout the week, participants explored topics including additive manufacturing, medical 3D printing, personalized prosthetics, CT/MRI-to-STL workflows, artificial intelligence in bioprinting, biomaterials, bioinks, tissue engineering, organ-on-chip models, regulatory aspects, and clinical translation.

The program featured lectures and keynotes from international researchers and experts, covering subjects such as volumetric bioprinting, high-resolution printing, microgels, bioprinting for space exploration, soft robotics, bioprinted blood vessels, orthopedic tissue engineering, modular micromaterials, cell assemblies, organ-on-chip technologies, and functional tissue printing.

Participants also took part in hands-on 3D printing sessions and laboratory activities, including visits to biofabrication facilities at Regenerative Medicine Utrecht and sessions hosted together with HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. These practical elements allowed students to experience different technologies, discuss applications, and connect the scientific concepts from the lectures to real laboratory workflows.

Beyond the scientific program, the summer school created space for discussion, collaboration, and community building. Participants exchanged ideas with peers, speakers, instructors, and industry representatives, and worked on innovative concepts for tissue printing that were presented at the end of the course.

We thank all students, speakers, instructors, partners, and team members for their enthusiasm, expertise, and contributions throughout the week. Their engagement made this another inspiring and successful edition of the Utrecht Summer School on 3D Printing & Biofabrication.

We look forward to welcoming the next group of participants for the 14th edition in 2027.
